About Department of Migrant Workers
As mentioned, the DMW is actually in a transition period, and once completed, POEA and many other Philippine government agencies will also be merged into the DMW office.
The POEA was an attached agency of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) that is tasked to oversee the recruitment and deployment of Filipino workers for overseas employment, as well as monitor and protect their welfare.
With the passage of Republic Act No. 10022 or the Amended Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995, the POEA was moved and its functions transferred to the DMW.
